Visceral Games is on the verge of launching Dead Space Extraction, a prequel to GameSpot’s 2008 award winner for Best Atmosphere and Sound Design, Dead Space. The game has new weapons, environments, enemies, and an added “On-rail shooter” feature, but has kept some locations and characters from the previous version to add to the gamers comfort. The games sound features double the fun of playing it especially when the floor guide shows up and navigates you through the available routes.
The adventure starts when you as a part of a crew arrive at USG Ishimura when the ship gets quarantined by an unknown infection. The crew splits up and treats any visitors infected in the colony and also helps you in fighting the necromorphs.
Each weapon in the arsenal can switch between the primary and alternate fire modes by just a twist of the Wii remote and, therefore, can be used effectively to slay the necromorphs. The “Arch Welder” is capable of shooting electricity in its primary and a massive ball of electricity in its alternate mode, both quite effective in killing the enemies. The flame thrower is also a good weapon, but something like stasis that slows down the enemies can save you in a crunch.
When in a dark room, you can light up the glow-worm by just shaking the wii remote. It helps you spot the necromorphs stalking you the the darkness. The glow-worm fades away gradually thus making it difficult for you to shoot the enemies that are far and requires you to find a way to do so. Some stages of the game test your skill of handling the games sensitivity like fixing the broken circuit of an elevator by tracing a line on it with sensors that might give you an electric shock if not handled properly.
Extraction has turned out to be an awesome work by Visceral till now and has been on the same lines as its predeccessor. With a few tweaks still pending, the game which is to be released this fall will surely top the lists of the “Must Buys”.
