Making your own patch cable
Cat 5 patch cables are very expensive to buy, but you can make your own patch cables, which will be much cheaper than those of the originals. But you have to do this very carefully; else your patch cable will be useless. One of the most common mistakes, which most people make while making their own cat 5 patch cables is that they try to use the wrong tools. For an instance, they may have a crimping cool, which is designed for use with telephone system modular wires; they try to use the tool to crimp the connectors for their cat 5 cable wiring.
Another common mistake people make is not purchasing enough cable. You can purchase cat 5 patch cable wiring in 1000-foot rolls. And if that will be too much for your wiring project, you can keep the rest of it in your storeroom. In addition to these materials, you may also need a good quality stripping tool. Don’t ever try to use a pen or knife or something like that to strip off the outer insulation from the cat 5 patch cable.
Another important item to have is a cable tester. A cable tester will allow you to check the integrity of your cable connections, before you physically try to use it with your computer system. There are the basic ingredients, you will need to make your own cost effective patch cable, as a patch cord is badly needed for the best computer network connections.
